Faculty

Anne Bobilin - Instructor
A violin performance graduate of Boston University's School of Fine Art, Bobilin is currently a core member of the Sarasota Orchestra and teaches violin privately and at Fruitville Elementary School. She has been involved in working with young children since high school, and most recently taught at the Suzuki Institute of Music, where she instructed students as young as age 4 on the violin and piano.

Robbert de Vries – Instructor/Lecturer
Born in the Netherlands, initially trained at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague, de Vries subsequently studied in Paris and Italy. Following further study at the New England Conservatory with Russell Sherman, de Vries served on the faculties of the New England Conservatory, University of New Hampshire, North Shore Community College, Northeastern University College and Barry University. During a 25-year residency in Cambridge, Mass., he taught students from Harvard University through a special arrangement with Harvard-Radcliffe. In addition ongoing private work with piano students and performing in concerts, de Vries presents his series of lecture and recitals on Dutch 19th-century and early 20th-century piano compositions, throughout the United States and Canada.  

Carlann Evans - Instructor
Evans is a native of Cleveland, Ohio.  She earned her bachelor's degree in violin at Baldwin-Wallace College with Gary Kosloski, and studied with several distinguished members of the Cleveland Orchestra. During that time, she was able to continue studies on clarinet and piano, as well as playing tenor sax in the stage band. In the summers, during college, she was able to attend the Aspen Music Festival where she focused primarily on the violin with Stephen Clapp of Julliard, and Kurt Sassmanshaus of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Evans then left Cleveland to continue her studies at the University of Texas at Austin with former Cleveland Institute faculty member, Eugene Gratovich, where she earned a master's degree in violin performance. After graduating, she spent a year with the Colorado Springs Symphony and then went on to spend the next decade in Spain with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Tenerife, as well as the Sinfonia de La Coruna, and was a member of the Philharmonia de Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. Evans is a member of the Sarasota Orchestra.

Valerie Terry – Conductor/Instructor
Terry is a staff member of Haile Middle School, serving as an instructor in orchestra.  She is a 10-year veteran of the Manatee County School District, at Harllee Middle School from 1984-88 as orchestra director, and has worked in the Sarasota Orchestra Education Program as conductor, coach and assistant education director since 1980. Terry also was a cellist with the Sarasota Orchestra for 27 years. She holds degrees from Manatee Community College and the University of South Florida. Terry is married to Stephen Terry, orchestra director and guitar instructor at Lakewood Ranch High School.
